The Pickaway County Master Gardeners invite you to their annual plant sale on Saturday, May 17th from 9:00 to 1:00 at the Pickaway County Library parking lot, 1150 North Court St, Circleville, Ohio. Annuals, perennials, herbs and planted containers will be for sale.
Mothers Day
Hope all of you enjoy your Mothers Day Celebration. A favorite day of Hallmark, Florists, and wireless phones. I love to go shopping late on Sat. eve or early Sun. morn and watch those who don't have a clue what to get but trying to find something to keep themselves out of trouble. Too often folks who have older parents could save themselves time and money by just spending a little extra time with that loved one that may not be able to do much any longer because of failing health. Planting flowers, sprucing up something around their home, purchasing some stamps and a box of cards for them to send is a nice gift. Maybe just doing a chore that they can't do like washing windows, cleaning a closet can mean so much to someone who sits in their home most of the time. Often just being a little kinder the other 51 Sundays of the year is a nice gift. I know being a caregiver is not easy. It is easy to become short tempered and judge unfairly because we don't want that loved one aging and not being what they were when we were young.
I will try to think of my own written advice when my fuse is so short and I am tempted to have a cane fight with Mom. I think how often she strives to forgive all of her 6 ducklings and to weigh her words as to not offend. I would have done hurt all of us by now LOL. So Mom I will try to wash a window and not make the face as you and all my loved ones know as "The Look". I will try not to curse your walker I trip over or bump my knee on when I load it in the car. I will try not to get angry when you don't do what the dr. says, and I will turn my head away every now and then when you sneak your candy out of your purse for a sweet treat. I will remember how you held me and guided me and I will try to continue to do so for you with the love that is forever bonded us together. As you said not too long ago you have lived with me longer than anyone else in your life I am sure most days you wondered why God was punishing you but for me it has been a blessing for you to help me raise my children and for me being able to help raise my 3 younger siblings. Through it all with love, family, friends and community we have come a long way baby and God willing we have more to go.
Happy Mother's Day Mom and all.
Cards
I know I am a card nut. Hallmark sends me a personal Christmas Card and I know if I ever give up my loving addiction the company will have to lay off a shift of personnel. I often just browse the card areas of any store I am in looking for that perfect birthday, get well, cope or whatever card. I sometimes laugh hysterically or cry at some of the beautiful verses. It is so hard for me when I spot that perfect card that I have to store it away and wait patiently for the event to come. Sometimes I send a birthday card just because it is funny and it may be 3 months early but I just can't keep that laugh to myself. My friend Allene always calls and remarks on the funny cards I find for her. They often are just what she needed to make her smile. So if you are out and hear me snickering or such, just know I am just planning a smile for someone via snail mail.
That's all I have for you this round just trying to be good so Jackie doesn't fire me.

ASHVILLE RELAY FOR LIFE
Come and help support the fight for a cure for cancer on Saturday, May 17th at the Teays Valley High School track. We will have the opening ceremony starting at noon with the survivor walk. Anyone who has had cancer or is currently battling it is invited to walk, with their caregiver during that lap. Following that lap, will be the introduction of the teams and they will have 1 lap. Then _ANYONE_ is allowed on the track to walk in memory or in honor of someone with cancer. We have wonderful entertainment all day and night including bands, soloists, a cruise in, games and a hill-billy wedding. The theme is: Dancing for a Cure so we will have some dance demonstrations, and competitions as well as a group of Irish Dancers performing. There will be good food and fun all day and all night. The luminary lighting will take place at dark. This year several businesses and members of the Ashville community donated money to purchase beautiful purple and white luminaries. We will have a special service to honor John Adkins before the lighting, with his daughter, Kendall reading a special tribute to him. That will be followed by a lap walked in honor of John, and then the entire track will be lit with
luminaries.
